1968 Johnny Ware Camaro Z/28

This Z/28 Camaro started out life as Johnny Ware's drag race car, but evolved into their road race car.   Some of the most capable professional shops were involved in the proper build out of this car, to full road race spec.  Dick Guldstrand’s race shop fitted a custom rollcage, Corvette J56 style calipers, Koni shocks, and a M-21 Muncie transmission.  Traco Engineering, who'd built the 1967-1969 Penske Chevolet motors, built a new 302 for the Ware Camaro in 1970.  After the 1970 season, an ex-Chaparral Camaro negative "cambered" rearend was also purchased and installed.

This Camaro ran in the SCCA Trans-Am series in both 1970 and 1971.  After the 1971 season, the Ware's kept the Camaro, but used it more sparingly.  Johnny's son, Rick, even used this Camaro to run both the Riverside and Caesar's Palace Trans-Am events in 1983.

After being sold on to a few owners who didn't use or race the car much, it found a loving new caretaker in 2013.  After it's 2013 purchase, this Camaro was restored to it's 1970 spec, and began to be raced more regularly in vintage events.
